What after 12th?

Psychology! A stream that has been a center of attention for a while now, especially after the havoc of covid-19, the world in general understood the importance of mental health and how much this field is an equal to any other fields of well-being.

As a professor, I was able to witness a lot of hope in students from 12th to bachelors to pursue Psychology because this field has no turning back now!

While scope in any career is a focus for us to decide our choices, its important to remember that when the field has no or lesser scope, you have even a higher scope to prove the need.

Let us quickly jump on to all the options that we have post-12th to enter this field of minds, behaviors and well people!

UG courses after 12th :

One can opt for BA (Psychology) or B.Sc (Psychology) based on the preference of which stream they would want to be more associated with. (i.e Arts or Science)

Eligibility to enter a UG program :

1. Candidates should have appeared or passed the Class 12 Board exam or equivalent education from the state/national education board in India.

2. Applicants should secure a minimum 50 per cent aggregate in the Class 12 Board exam.

Candidates from all streams i.e. Arts, Science or Commerce are eligible for admission to Psychology courses.

3. Different colleges/Institutes for psychology courses may have their own set of eligibility criteria. (i.e. entrance examinations or merit based admissions).

Course Timeline : 3 years

BA Psychology Syllabus

Psychology at bachelors level is theoretical with importance to understanding of basic psychology concepts that help one pursue higher education in Psychology.

Pure Psychology Subjects: General Psychology, Abnormal Psychology, Experimental Psychology, Social Psychology, Para Psychology etc.

Applied Psychology Subjects: Educational Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Legal Psychology, Political Psychology, Criminal Psychology, Industrial Psychology etc.

How to prepare for BA entrances?

Some of the colleges which conduct Entrance Exams are – Banaras Hindu University, Delhi University, Rama University, Jawaharlal Nehru University, and many more.

A few of the common subjects of the Entrance tests are:

• Numerical Ability

• Mental Ability

• Comprehensive ability

• General Knowledge

You can also opt for open universities like IGNOU in case a student is not able to pursue regular education.
